Metropolitan Homelessness Project

It is the mission of Metropolitan Homelessness Project to end homelessness in Albuquerque, on both individual and societal levels, through a unified voice of advocacy prevention and service.

Who We Are

Homelessness is a visible problem in New Mexico. It makes our citizens vulnerable to theft, assault, illness, hunger and overwhelming stress. It is estimated that close to 17,000 people in New Mexico experience homelessness over the course of a year. In Bernalillo County alone, over 1,000 men seek shelter every night. Albuquerque Opportunity Center provides 71 year-round emergency night shelter beds that are available for homeless men. In 3 years of operations, AOC has provided almost 40,000 nights of shelter to 1300 men, which accounts for 23% of all such beds available in Albuquerque.  Nearly 30% of these men exit into safe, affordable housing.

Mission
The mission of Metropolitan Homelessness Project's Albuquerque Opportunity Center is to provide creative, innovative and high-quality shelter and services for people experiencing homelessness in our community, while cooperating with neighbors and the broader community to end the injustices of homelessness.
