Dennis R. Plummer, C.Ht., has been involved with homelessness and housing issues since the late 1980s. His involvement has included undercover investigation of shelter conditions, working as emergency shelter overnight staff, crafting public policy, serving in food lines, leading program and policy design and teaching English as a second language.
A published newspaper journalist and former school administrator, Mr. Plummer has worked for Metropolitan Homelessness Project since February 2006 at its Albuquerque Opportunity Center as a Resident Advocate, Team Lead and Program Director. He was hired as Executive Director in October 2007.
Director of Facilities and the Respite Care program, Jessica Casey has been working with the Metropolitan Homelessness project since 2007. Jessica’s interest in social justice led her to begin volunteering at Albuquerque Opportunity Center while finishing her degree in Printmaking and Sociology at the University of New Mexico. Before settling in New Mexico, Jessica travelled extensively throughout the US and its metropolitan centers. These experiences developed into a personal commitment to ending homelessness.
David Sisneros, has lived in New Mexico his entire life. He is passionate about helping the people of Albuquerque who are experiencing homelessness. He works to alleviate the suffrage of homeless persons in our society and has worked in social services for about five years and strives everyday to find better ways to serve this population. He is a proud father and husband, but more than that, he is a servant. He is currently a Program Director and VetTran Program Manager at Metropolitan Homelessness Project.
Jennifer Metzler has 25 years experience working in community-based organizations dedicated to health, ending homelessness and poverty, and addressing violence against women. In Latin America and New Mexico, she has developed and implemented a range of outreach and services programs and led collaborative initiatives of diverse community groups. Most recently, she concluded 15 years at Albuquerque Health Care for the Homeless, Inc., where as Development and then Executive Director she created a unique annual participatory planning process and successfully generated up to $7 million in a sustainable public/private mix of operating revenues each year. She was responsible for health center strategic planning and alliances, organizational development, policy advocacy, and board development, including consumer governance and leadership.
She has served in leadership of non-profit boards locally and nationally, primarily with organizations committed to social justice and served as executive producer and primary author for several multi-media productions and training curricula. She holds a BA in Spanish/Latin American Studies from Beloit College and a Master of Public Health from the University of Michigan.
Community Voice Mail Manager/Exit Planner
Nichole Umbarger is a Program Manager for Metropolitan Homelessness Project. She manages Community Voice Mail (CVM) which provides free voicemail service to any person in need. CVM helps connect people to employment, housing, social service, healthcare and other supportive services, such as family and friends. She is also the Exit Planner for Albuquerque Opportunity Center, an overnight emergency shelter for men experiencing homelessness. She has a passion for bring the community together in a positive way though communication as well as providing resources to the men we serve.
Robert Nelson works for Metropolitan Homelessness Project, an agency devoted to ending homelessness in Albuquerque, NM He manages all the shelter’s grants and administers human resources. He also is involved with Albuquerque Heading Home, a new homeless initiative seeking to house the most vulnerable in Albuquerque. Additionally, he serves on two local boards – the local Young Nonprofit Professionals Network (YNPN) chapter and New Mexico Coalition to End Homelessness (NMCEH). In his spare time, he volunteers within the community; he’s an avid runner and reader and plays guitar in a band called Atomic Jellyfish.
